Orientation Programme for 1st EMS

We, the students of the BSc EMS (Economics, Mathematics and Statistics) program were extremely privileged to have an elaborate orientation program that enabled us to learn about what the course has to offer and build our personal skills.

The three day program began on June 10th where students of various programs gathered in the auditorium for a formal orientation. Teachers took stage to explain to us the rules and regulations of the University. Our Vice Chancellor, Father Abraham V.M addressed the students and emphasised the importance of utilising every opportunity provided in campus and to use these three years in the best possible manner. As part of the cultural events; Natyarpana, the University’s Dance Group put up a mesmerising performance and the University Choir gave us a beautiful rendition of ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’.

Our class teacher, Dr Smita S Nagouda warmly welcomed us and explained the prospects of the course. Dr Joseph T.V, Head of the Department of Mathematics addressed us and mentioned that this is the only Department in Christ University where all the fifteen teachers have completed their PhD. Dr Joseph also enlightened us about the scope in the field of research and emphasised on how important it is for us to maintain a positive attitude throughout our lives.

On June 11th, Dr Sahana Prasad and Dr Joshy K.J from the Department of Statistics and Economics respectively introduced to us the course plan and had an interactive session. Dr Anita Mary, a psychologist, gave us a motivational talk from which every one of us took home valuable lessons. Ma’am introduced to us the acronym KASH which stands for Knowledge, Attitude, Skill and Habit and she tied this acronym very beautifully with the motto of the University, Excellence and Service. She reiterated the fact that we must always keep chasing our dreams however hard they may seem.

This was followed by a session in the auditorium where we were introduced to all the various extra-curricular activities that Christ has to offer. Some of them being CSA, SWO, CAPS, NCC, Theatre and Music.

For the last day, we had Mr Rupen Paul who taught us what is takes to be a good leader and how we must effectively manage our time. Sir gave each of us a minute to speak to the class and talk about our Greatest Achievements. This opportunity really helped us connect with our classmates on a very personal level as most of the stories were very touching ones. Our seniors then had an ice breaking session with us and we played a couple of games. This really helped us build a good rapport with them.

These three days were educative and a lot of fun and we look forward to the years ahead at Christ University.
